Our clients include fishing fleets, cargo/container ships, ocean-going yachts, cruise ships, tugboats, military/government vessels, research vessels and even power plants. Job Description

Clipper Oil is currently seeking a full-time, reliable, analytical, highly detail oriented, confident, career driven individual to fill our Junior Fuel Trader position. This is a great position in a casual but hard-working, ambitious and dynamic sales department/office environment. This is a small, fast-paced office with shifting priorities and a team dedicated to the rewarding mission of our organization. We operate as a small business, and therefore this position would be involved in many different aspects of our day-to-day operations. Since 90% of our business is international/overseas, the ideal candidate must be willing to work long/flexible hours.

Primary responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
  • Fuel/Bunker Trading

  • Start-to-finish order processing from our worldwide customer/supplier network.

  • Provide outstanding customer service before/during/after deliveries. Daily follow-up on all orders/inquiries.

  • New business development and client prospecting.

  • Comfortable with flexible hours, iPhone, laptop, overseas/international customer base.

  • Many sales will be completed after hours, not your typical 9-5 job. Please do not apply if you are not comfortable doing work and replying to e-mails at nights and during weekends.


Day-to-Day Duties:
  • Negotiate purchase and sales prices with our worldwide customer/supplier network.

  • Act as an important link between the customer and the supplier.

  • Provide thorough follow-up on all inquiries, transactions, and orders with both suppliers and customers.

  • Prepare and process quotations, sales inquiries, sales confirmations and contracts.

  • Develop a client portfolio and research the market for new opportunities to expand the business.

  • Make sales calls, setup meetings and prospect potential new clients/opportunities. Business Development.

  • You may have to work outside of normal working hours, so a degree of flexibility is expected.


Requirements/Skills to include:
  • BS or BA degree in Business, Economics, Finance, Entrepreneurship, Marketing or related field.

  • Some experience within the maritime/marine, shipping, supply chain/logistics or oil/bunker industry (preferred). Candidates with other industry experience are welcome to apply. This is an entry level position.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong organization skills. Must be able to multitask.

  • Must be comfortable receiving LOTS of e-mail. (200+ e-mails per day)

  • Highest level of analytical skills and VERY GOOD WITH NUMBERS.

  • Hardworking, detail oriented, structured, proactive and customer service focused.

  • Comfortable with handling currency conversions, volume conversions and profit margins.

  • Willing to work long, flexible hours, and deal with different time zones. Comfortable with 24/7 service.

  • Excellent knowledge of all Microsoft Office applications (Word, Outlook, Excel, etc.). IT Proficient.

  • Very strong internet research and computer skills. Strong negotiation ability.

  • Foreign language including Spanish a plus.
