San Diego, California (37°N 122°W)

The Port of San Diego is home to two marine transport terminals, two cruise ship terminals, numerous shipyards, commercial fishing fleets and many tourist attractions. The first tuna cannery opened in San Diego in 1909, and at one time, San Diego was known as “The Tuna Capital of the World." Over time, San Diego has transitioned to be the 4th largest port in California and is constantly undergoing development designated to support cargo and vessel operations for the U.S. military’s Transportation Command and Military Sealift Command.

The five terminals in San Diego are an economic catalyst for the San Diego region. San Diego's southwestern location is ideal for shippers of fruit and other perishables. It also handles specialized cargo, automobiles, windmill components and project cargo, which includes steel and components for power plants. The Port of San Diego serves as one of 17 "strategic ports" across the United States, designated by the Defense Department to load and offload military equipment.

Housed on 96 acres of land, the Tenth Avenue Terminal at the Port of San Diego is home to the largest cold storage facility on the West Coast. It has a maximum water depth of 42 feet. 300,000 square feet of on-dock space is dedicated to frozen and refrigerated storage.
